Why you can't afford to avoid using Direct Mail in your marketing strategy.

We often believe things that seem plausible without really doing our research. You would be forgiven to believe that social media, the most recent surge of advertising is the sure fire way to promote your business now. After all it costs next to nothing, it's easy and you can see the results. Despite the undoubted trend in social media, there is a place for print in your marketing strategy which the internet can never replace.

Many companies today have completely ditched the use of any marketing that isn't online. However, whether your opinion sways in favour of either print or online advertising - if you want effective results from your advertising the best way to see results is to use both methods simultaneously.

Printed adverts have been around as since advertising began, but companies now worry that consumers are no longer looking in the places those adverts where once effective. For example, advertising in a newspaper was once incredibly popular, but recently customers are commonly reading newspapers online.

Whilst people are certainly looking online, they aren't necessarily staying to look. Think about the amount of adverts that interfere with your internet browsing which you pay little (if any) attention to. The vast amount of information being thrown at us on a daily basis is overwhelming. Direct mail adverts still reign supreme, offering response rates of 1.1 to 1.4% versus 0.03% for email, and 0.04% for internet display ads. The golden advantage that print will always have over the internet is the physicality of an advert. Some further important advantages of print advertising are;

1. Placement
People don't want to look hard to find something. If you are searching google for a service you are unlikely to look beyond the first few pages of results. The information your customers need has to be given to them easily. There are few better ways than bringing your information directly to customers homes. (see info about our solo delivery).

2. Trust
The physical feel of print captures peoples attention more than you may be aware of. As a graphic designer I am all too aware of the many ways information captures people, often without them being conscious of it. There is a reason you buy the things you buy. A high quality, thick, smart leaflet instantly gives people the impression you are a trustworthy company. It makes an instant connection with someone, even if it's merely brand awareness they are connecting with. The more people see your brand is another way to build trust with consumers too. Direct mail has the highest rate of success in new customer acquisition at 34% compared with other marketing channels.

3. Authenticity
Anyone can publish information online. Printed advertising demonstrates that this is a company who are using their budget to reach more customers and have established themselves enough to have the budget to do so. Print gives a good impression instantly compared to quick and easy alternatives.

These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many benefits print ads can offer. When it comes to marketing, don't just look for the cheapest option but consider how to make your results go further. Leaflet distribution is low cost and affordable, and when added with your other forms of marketing can achieve great results.
